8 Ways to Handle Stress

  1. Self-Care. It may seem difficult to care for your own needs when in the face of a big work project, or a relationship difficulty. However, when you permit yourself to take some time away from the problem, you give yourself space to rest and come back stronger. It is important not to avoid the tasks that you need to do, but even just a few minutes of time to care for yourself can do wonders.
  2. Set realistic goals -Take small concrete steps to deal with tasks instead of overwhelming yourself with goals that are too far-reaching for busy times.
  3. Exercise. Exercise reduces levels of the body’s stress hormones and helps stimulate production of endorphins which are the body’s mood elevators. Even if you do not feel like it, giving yourself 20 minutes exercise breaks can serve to reduce the intensity of stress you experience.
  4. Social Support. Getting in touch with a friend can help your relieve your stress. Sharing your concerns and allowing a friend to support you can help you cope with your stressful situation. Set realistic goals -Take small concrete steps to deal with tasks instead of overwhelming yourself with goals that are too far-reaching for busy times.
  5. Go easy on yourself: Accept that you are not perfect and will inevitably not be perfect no matter how hard you try.
  6. Identify what you can and what you can’t control. What you can’t control is not something you need to worry over once you have done your part.
  7. Deep breathing. Taking slow deep breaths when you feel overwhelmed can help reduce the physical feelings of stress and anxiety almost immediately. It may sound simple, but I really helps!
  8. Eat well. Having a regular, well-balanced diet will help you feel better in general and helps regulate your moods. Not eating well can affect you both physically and mentally and thus intensify stress.
